Native/Board games
Native games
Step into a world where the thrill of friendly competitions fill the air. Join us for children’s Native Games, where tradition meets playfulness in a safe environment. Beyond books, we celebrate the heritage of play, offering a haven for children to connect with timeless games that transcend generations. Our
Children’s Native Games program is a delightful exploration of traditional games that have been cherished across many Zambian cultures. From indigenous games to classic childhood favourites, we invite children to rediscover the joy embedded in these cultural treasures. Natubelenge Children’s Library staff are excited to be part of the effort to preserve local languages
which may be on the verge of extinction, if not transferred to the next generation. Over the years, it seems a lot of parents in urban areas might be leaning towards raising their children with English as their first language. For this reason, our library uses native games every Thursday afternoon, which we call native day to preserve local languages. Through native day children informally teach each other various local games and languages as they play. Zambia is rich with over 70 languages and dialects, so it
is common for children in an area to speak different languages.
Board games
Fridays at our library are purely for winding down and socialisation. We offer a range of Board games that provide an engaging and educational way for children to have fun while developing various skills. They promote skills such as counting, letter recognition, problem-solving, and strategic thinking.
