The literacy project
About The literacy project
Natubelenge Children’s Library started as an open-air library in the backyard under a mango tree. Our founders would go into the neighbourhood to scout for children, but it was observed that most children would shy away from reading with us. It was later discovered that the children who shied away could not read. This is a brief history of the genesis of our literacy project. Our library has since embarked on an ongoing literacy project to end the cycle of poverty caused by Illiteracy. This is done through one-on-one and group learning sessions, Storytime sessions and holiday reading camps for children. Over 500 children have graduated from our literacy classes in the last five years.
